Our English Synopsis 1. Audio Culture (Editorial notes) The enclosed post card contains a questionnaire for our readers. The main questions (as customary) are the following: what is your musical preference, what is your opinion of our magazine, what kind of Hi-Fi gear do you own at the moment and what are you planning to buy in the future in case the right equipment is available. 2. Soundservice Space for those desiring to inquire, needing advice, wishing to comment or argue or even to advertize. 3. 150 Postal Adresses Last fall a list of western Hi-Fi companies and commercial retail enterprises have been published. In the meantime due to the large number of newly founded companies or changed coordinates an update is in order. 4. Instruments And Tones: From Bows To Violins Our first article on acoustics will be dealing with the physics of instruments. Next we will treat the subject of concerthall acoustics and sooner or later we will take care of home acoustics (if we manage to get smarter in the practical domain as well). 5. Pepita Dossier Having examined Hungarian classical recordings we will scrutinise the quality of pop disc and compare them so such western examples as Pink Floyd, Queen etc. The subjective test will be supplemented by some measurings. 6. Recording Sheet Reviews, criticism. 7. The Yellow Brick Road (Press digest) HiFi Stereophonie, Hi-Fi News & Record Review, Hi-Fi Answers, Audio. 8. LinnKing To The West His Majesty Linn Sondek the first, the record player of all scots is being presented in full pomp on the centerfold of Hifi Magazin. Accompanying the crowned personality are the similarly royal Ittok and Asak and other dignitaries as AGI 5IIA preamp and Naim NAP 250 power amp. Instead of testing separate units we examined an almost complete chain of references so as to be able to ascertain where the State Of The Art is today. 9. Arm Resonances (Structural vibrations in tonearms) Using the methods of the british expert Martin Colloms, we can now measure an important if so far neglected parameter of tonearms. (Structural resonances are not to be mistaken for the well known arm- pickup resonance. The foriner appears in the 20 Hz-20 kHz frequency range while the latter only between 5 and 15 Hz.) 10. The MC-Test An examination of the sonic qualities of record players using two Ortofon MC 10 cartridges. Our judgement: turntables and tonearms do have their "Eigentones", in other words they influence the stereo image. But even the cheapest Hi-Fi recordplayer can be improved by a moving coil cartridge. The sound quality of such bottom of line record players is primarily determined by the pick-up. 11. Our Basic Of Reference Hifi Mag's reference equipments. 12. Presenting Pioneer PL-6 and Hitachi HT 5OS record player, Technics SU-300MC head amp as well as a whole load of Videoton speakers. 13. MOD: Wings For Merkury A monitor switch and other improvements on the Polish receiver Merkury... 14. Between Takes (Forecast)
